Jas & Chantelle
Château de Robernier wedding, Provence
Jas and Chantelle’s wedding at Château de Robernier, in Provence, took two days, each with its own mood. This is the first, the classic day: a harp and violin duo for the ceremony, an arch of white flowers on the terrace with the hills behind it, and Chantelle in a Suzanne Neville dress, quiet Hollywood glamour that suited the house.
Dinner was at long tables in the courtyard under the vines and strings of lights, and the night ended on the dance floor inside. The second day, with Dhol drummers, DJ Nav and an Indian banquet, has a story of its own.

Morning
Chantelle got ready in a room of red damask and white wood, with her dress hanging from the four-poster bed and henna on her palms. There was a bath in her robe, champagne on the bed with her bridesmaids, and then the dress, the veil and white roses with everyone in blush.

Across the house
Jas and his groomsmen dressed in the white and gold rooms downstairs, all in sand-coloured suits. Buttonholes, waistcoats, cufflinks, and a few minutes on the leather sofas in the library before they went out to the terrace.

The ceremony
The ceremony was on the terrace, under an arch of white flowers with the hills behind it and a harp and violin duo playing. Chantelle came down the red staircase and out past the tower. Jas wiped away tears during the vows, and they walked back up the aisle through a cloud of confetti.

Cocktail hour
Guests spread out across the gravel and the lawns with their drinks, and a chef cooked at a stand under the arches. Chantelle stepped out on a balcony above them all, then came down for photographs with her bridesmaids at the arch.

The olive grove
We started on the long avenue of palms in front of the château, then walked into the olive grove as the light softened. Back inside, we finished in one of the white and gold salons, with a quiet minute together on a gilt sofa.

Dinner in the courtyard
Dinner was laid on long tables in the courtyard, under the vines, glass globes and strings of lights, with greenery down the middle and bread at every place. Jas and Chantelle came in through the ivy to napkins waving overhead, and the speeches had the whole courtyard laughing.

Into the night
After dark came a croquembouche with sparklers, a chocolate fountain and a champagne tower. Chantelle changed into a short lace dress, and the dance floor inside the château stayed full until the end of the night.

Photographing at Château de Robernier

The estate.
A long avenue of palms leads to the house and its round tower, with formal gardens, open courtyards and an olive grove around it. The day moves from one space to the next without ever feeling rushed.
Ceremonies.
On the terrace at the edge of the gardens, with a stone balustrade and the hills behind. In the late afternoon the light there turns softer and more directional, which suits ceremonies and early evening portraits.
The interiors.
White and gold salons, marble floors, chandeliers and a sweeping staircase. Quieter than the gardens, with even natural light, and good for getting ready and for a few calm portraits.
Dinner.
In the courtyard under the vines, at long tables lit by strings of lights. Dinner outdoors here feels settled, with enough space for guests to stay at the table rather than move through it.
