Stefania & Rodolphe

Civil ceremony in Montbéliard, France

Stefania and Rodolphe, Civil ceremony, Montbéliard

At the town hall

Guests gathered outside the town hall in Montbéliard while the last ones crossed the square. Rodolphe met Stefania at the door with her bouquet of orange and pink flowers, and their friends crowded round them in the entrance before everyone went in.

The ceremony

The ceremony was in a bright room hung with small lights, led by an official in a tricolour sash. Stefania and Rodolphe could hardly stop laughing, their friends laughed with them, and after the kiss and the signatures everyone wanted to hug them first.

On the square

They kissed again in the doorway and stepped out to cheers. Stefania threw her bouquet over the crowd, and we made a few portraits by the old fountain while she twirled the sheer overskirt of her lace outfit.

The vintage car

A pale blue vintage car was waiting round the corner. Stefania looked out from behind her little veil, kissed Rodolphe at the wheel, and they drove to a small family cocktail party. The church wedding, with all its guests, was the next day.

Ceremony
Civil ceremony at the town hall
Town
Montbéliard, east of France
When
The day before the church wedding
Afterwards
A small family cocktail party

Three months before their wedding, Stefania and Rodolphe asked me to photograph their civil ceremony as well, the day before the big day. They chose Montbéliard because Rodolphe grew up at his family’s château in nearby Valentigney, where his family still lives.

The ceremony at the town hall was full of energy and happiness. Stefania wore lace with a sheer overskirt and a small veiled hat, they kissed in the doorway, the bouquet flew over the square and a pale blue vintage car took them to a small family cocktail party. The church wedding came the next day.
