Emil & Melinda
Wedding in Västerås, Sweden
Emil and Melinda met at kindergarten, where he told her, “You will be my girlfriend, Melinda.” About fifteen years later they met again and fell in love. I have known them for years: my husband worked with Emil, and when Melinda saw my photographs she asked me to photograph their wedding in Sweden.
The wedding was in Västerås, on a rainy day with a few sunny hours. They married in a church, made the most of the sun for portraits in the fields, and had dinner and a long party at a country venue. I would say this couple knows what they are doing.

Morning
Melinda got ready with her bridesmaids in a bright house with sloping ceilings. Her dress waited by the window while her make-up was done, then the lace veil came out, a bridesmaid opened the champagne, and she sat for a quiet minute in the light.

Emil and his friends
Emil and his groomsmen got ready together: a navy three-piece suit, a red tie, a white rose on the lapel and a watch he checked more than once. There were a lot of them, and before leaving for the church they raised a glass together.

The church
They married in a church with red brick walls, a high wooden ceiling and blue stained glass. Emil was in tears before Melinda reached the front, and again during the vows. Rings, a few more tears, and they walked back down the aisle together past their guests.

What couples say
“We could only imagine that our photos would become this great - and you really managed to capture every feeling of the wedding.”

In the fields
The rain held off for a few sunny hours, so we drove out into the countryside. The grass was tall and green, the wind kept catching Melinda’s long veil, and the two of them laughed under it more than once.

Dinner in the country
Dinner was at a red wooden country venue, with candles, roses and greenery along the tables. The bridal party sprayed champagne outside, the speeches came one after another, and a few of them made Emil hide his face in his hands.

Into the night
After the first dance their friends lifted Emil and then Melinda high above the dance floor, and the party kept going. In Swedish summer it never gets really dark, so the barbecue at 3 am looked just like evening.

Questions
How far ahead should we book?
Most couples book six to eighteen months ahead. Summer Saturdays go first.
I’m excited to go wherever your love story is taking me and looking forward to hearing from you!
