Narbonne is an old Roman city near the Mediterranean coast of Occitanie, with a stretch of the Via Domitia uncovered in its main square and the Canal de la Robine running through the centre. Vineyards, garrigue and stone villages surround it, and Château du Puits es Pratx is close by.
Photographing weddings at Château du Puits es Pratx has become one of my traditions. Its stone walls, inner courtyard and many small spaces keep a wedding close, from the ceremony in the garden to the speeches round the fountain and the dancing indoors late at night. The staff are among the best I work with.
The city
The Gothic cathedral of Saint-Just, the Roman road and the canal quays make a good setting for an engagement session or a walk together the day before.
The courtyard
Long tables round the old fountain under a vine, with paper lanterns overhead. The stone holds the warmth of the day, so dinner goes on late.
The vineyard
Vines grow close to the house at Château du Puits es Pratx, and they are my favourite place there for portraits when the sun is low.
Getting there
Béziers, Carcassonne and Perpignan airports are all within about an hour, and Narbonne has a mainline train station.
